Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to Highfield Preparatory School and thank you for taking the time to visit our website.  I hope that you will enjoy reading the content and that you get a glimpse of what we offer as a school and why we’re the first for girls.

Highfield is a school to be proud of.  It retains many traditions since its founding in 1918, but is always looking forward to future innovations and changes.

We are committed to offering a broad, balanced, creative and challenging curriculum, enriched by experiences and opportunities which enhance and consolidate the learning process.  All girls are involved in school activities which aim to make them more self-aware and help them acquire the skills needed for adult life. With these aptitudes, we feel that we are giving the girls an outstanding start for their future education and their lives. We focus on the individual and challenge every girl to make their own special contribution, whilst developing a love of learning.

Small class sizes enable our team of highly qualified, caring, committed and enthusiastic teachers to be responsive to the needs of the individual child ensuring continuity and progression for all our girls.  We have developed a wide and varied range of after-school activities and trips which broaden the curriculum and enrich the girl’s lives.

We believe, that in the important primary years, girls learn best in girls’ schools. They learn by doing, listening, exploring and experimenting. The girls are given daily opportunities to explore, question, try, investigate, discover, apply and have fun! This all starts in the Nursery, which was graded Excellent at inspection in 2013, where the girls learn to develop confidence and independence.

We are proud of our reputation as a school with a strong ethos and nurturing pastoral care coupled with academic excellence. Our girls achieve well beyond national expectations and move on to some of the best schools in the area at 11+, often achieving academic, sports and music scholarships.  The atmosphere at Highfield is one of warmth and enthusiasm and there is a genuine desire for the girls to strive for the very best for themselves, intellectually and personally.

We offer wonderful resources both onsite and utilising the very best of the local facilities such as sporting venues, local businesses and open spaces.  We work in partnership with parents, recognising that they are the first and best educators of their child.  We consider ourselves to be very privileged that parents have entrusted us with the care and education of their girls. We value the contribution that parents make to the life of the school and to the education of their daughters, and the school benefits greatly from the work of the parents’ association.

I am always delighted to meet new parents, to show you round the school and to talk about what we can do to enrich the lives of your girls here at Highfield. I extend an invitation to you to visit our school where you are guaranteed a warm welcome.  Our girls will take you on a tour of our school and I will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.
